Family Child Care Provider Receives National Accreditation
12/28/2009
The National Association of Family Child Care awarded accreditation to Marjorie Wilson, owner of Megs Family Child Care in East Falmouth and provider for the Cape Cod Child Development family child care system. Marjorie was excited about the challenge of meeting the qualifications for an accreditation saying it raised her sense of professionalism.
Marjorie has been providing care in her home for 30 years. Megs Family Child Care serves infants through school age children, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The variances in ages of the children in care allow for the younger children to have role models in the older children and the older children to practice leadership skills.
The curriculum includes music, reading, art, self-esteem building, and free play, and is enhanced through field trips. Marjorie said, “I love the feeling I get by trying to help children. I feel that the world is a very stressful place and children feel a lot of this. I want children to feel special and have a good self esteem.”
Family child care providers who are part of Cape Cod Child Development have access to professionals who understand the many issues surrounding child development. The collective network of expertise makes the family child care system of Cape Cod Child Development a highly specialized and comprehensive program that supports children and caregivers.
The National Association of Family Child Care offers accreditation to providers across the country, aiding them in raising their standards of quality care and gaining them the respect and recognition they deserve for their commitment to quality and children (visit www.nafcc.org for more information about NAFCC, receiving an accreditation or finding an accredited provider).
The city of East Falmouth benefits from accreditation as it is an indicator that quality care is available for parents in this community. Children benefit from accreditation as it indicates they will be cared for in a safe, nurturing environment and that their educational needs will be met.
